Ames
International Friendship Fairs
The YWCA Ames-ISU has held International Friendship Fairs since 1992! International Friendship Fairs offers a unique opportunity for the Ames and ISU communities to dispel stereotypes and gain intercultural understanding. The YWCA believes education is key to eliminating racism, so we have created a "safe space" where children and adults can ask internationals from all around the globe questions about their cultures.
During International Friendship Fair activities, international volunteers share items from their cultures in a fun and educational way. Community members then experience multicultural games, crafts, exotic music, stories and much more.
International Friendship Fair volunteers can be part of your community’s activities, including fairs, potlucks or special celebrations.
Upcoming International Friendship Fairs:
The YWCA Ames-ISU holds 8-10 IFF's each year throughout the academic year. IFF's are held at public and private Story County Schools (from preschool - 12th grade), the Ames Public Library, Heartland Senior Services, and more! Contact us today if you are interested in holding an IFF at your organization!
If you would like to volunteer or would like International Friendship Fair presenters to be a part of your event, please contact Halle at hallenan@iastate.edu.
